I'll be working up to four mile swims in the next month, and then aiming for 6 miles.
Most mornings is two miles, and then alternating days in the early evening we fit in the longer swims.
If you are looking for someone to swim the longer distances with touch base with me. There are a few of us down at the beach regularly for the longer swims.

PostSubject: Upcoming Open Water Swims   Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:02 am

There are a few open water swims that are coming up that are well organized and lots of fun:

Tod's Point 1 - mile swim (Threads and Treads on GTC website)

Island Beach 2 mile swim (Sat, Aug 14th), run by Greenwich Swim Committee, a nice ferry ride to Island Beach from Greenwich, the swim is back towards shore a loop around the buoy and back to the Island. Ferry runs back every 1/2 hour, well organized, low key, good mix of ability levels, picnic afterwards decent number of buoys for sighting.

Quassy Swim Festival - (Sat, Sept 4th, labor day weekend) - three different races; 31/2 mile, 11/2 mile, and 1/2 mile - you can register for 1, 2 or all three for 5 miles of swimming if you like (several do this). There is a decent recovery time between swims. It is in Lake Quassy and goes from the Sailing Club (directly across from the amusement park and start of Rev 3), it is extremely well organized, excellent water to swim in, decent number of buoys for sighting, very good food afterward. This event grows stronger in number each year.

Wetsuits are allowed at these events but it is a purist crowd so they don't give age group awards for wetsuit participants.
